Frequently Asked Questions

Is UpScore really free to use?

Yes, completely free! No hidden fees, premium features, or subscription costs. We believe in helping freelancers succeed without financial barriers.

Can UpScore access my Upwork account password?

Absolutely not! The extension only reads job information that's already visible on Upwork pages. It can't access your password, private messages, financial details, or any other private account information.

What happens if I uninstall the extension?

When you uninstall the extension, all your settings and usage statistics are automatically deleted from your browser. Nothing gets left behind, and we don't store anything on external servers anyway.

Does the extension slow down my browser?

Not at all! The extension is lightweight and only works on Upwork.com pages. It processes everything locally without connecting to external servers, so it has minimal impact on your browser's performance.

Why does the extension need storage permission?

Storage permission lets the extension remember your settings (like auto-expand preferences) and keep track of usage statistics (jobs scored, estimated savings) on your computer. This data never leaves your device and makes your experience better.

How accurate are the job scores?

The extension analyzes multiple factors like client verification, payment history, job requirements, and market indicators to provide informed scores. While scores are based on available data and proven metrics, you should always use them as guidance alongside your own professional judgment.

Does UpScore work on mobile devices?

No, it's a Chrome browser extension designed for desktop and laptop computers. Mobile browsers don't support Chrome extensions yet. But most freelancers prefer working on desktop anyway for writing proposals and analyzing jobs.

What specific factors does the extension analyze to calculate job scores?

The extension analyzes 9 key factors: client payment verification (highest weight), client rating and reviews, total spending history, hire success rate, number of proposals on the job, client work history patterns, phone verification status, account age, and recent job activity. Each factor is weighted differently based on how reliable it is for predicting job quality.

How does the connect cost calculation work?

The extension calculates connect costs based on Upwork's pricing of $1.50 per 10 connects. It displays the USD cost for each job application and tracks potential money saved by avoiding low-scoring jobs: a score under 4 counts the full connect cost as saved, and a score of 4 or higher counts half of it, since a solid job may still be worth applying to.

Can I customize the extension settings and what options are available?

Yes! You can customize settings through the extension popup. Turn the extension on/off, set score details to auto-expand by default, and reset everything to defaults with one click. All settings are saved on your computer and sync across tabs instantly when you make changes.

On which Upwork pages does the extension work?

The extension works on every major Upwork job page: individual job listings, search results and the sliding job-details panel next to them, proposal pages, and Upwork's newer find-work interface. It reads job details the same way whether they open in a popup overlay or a full page, so the score card shows up no matter which layout you land on.

What does the confidence percentage in job scores mean?

Confidence measures how much client data was available when a job was scored. It isn't shown as a number on the card itself; screen readers announce it as part of each job-listing badge, so it helps with accessibility without adding clutter. Behind the scenes, the scoring engine adjusts its weights whenever data is missing, so a client with a thinner history still gets a fair score instead of a broken one.
